As I mentioned in an earlier post, I am finally getting around to learning Objective C<\/a>. It has been a few years since I have worked with a language like C. I knew it was time to rededicate myself to coding, however I was nervous that time away may has taken a bit of a toll on my skills. The brain is like a muscle in some regards. I am having to use parts of my brain I haven’t used in a long while. I guess I have focused too much on academic publishing instead of coding and pure development lately.\u00a0When you combine that with programming within the Mac xCode environment, the first class was equivalent to metaphorically pulling my hair out.<\/p>\n

I have been using a PC as my main machine for the past year and a half so I am struggling with just finding stuff in the IDE and in Mountain Lion.\u00a0This is an excellent class but they are moving fast and Objective C is fairly low level. You have to deal with some issues of manual memory management like we had to do back in C. And as I said before my coding skills are very rusty.<\/p>\n

But the class runs until mid July so I have time to pull it together. And this was just the first class. I will just need to put on my big boy pants and push through it. The funny thing is that I now realise how some of my students must feel.<\/p>\n
