I had an opportunity to participate on a faculty panel at LaGuardia Community College<\/a> to discuss\u00a0the topic of\u00a0Black Males in Adult Education this week. I\u00a0was invited to sit on the panel and\u00a0critique\u00a0“Swimming Upstream: Black Males in Adult Education<\/a>” by my LaGuardia colleague,\u00a0Dr. Joni Schwartz<\/a>.\u00a0The book was the first volume in a series of books that Joni and her colleagues are writing to\u00a0give voice to important social and pedagogical topics\u00a0issues facing Blacks in America.<\/p>\n

The turnout for the faculty panel discussion was fairly large and it appeared that my\u00a0comments\u00a0were well received by the audience. There were so many intelligent young brothers and sisters in the audience that it made me feel encouraged for the future during a time when media representations of black men and women are far from positive. It is my personal hope\u00a0that my\u00a0contribution on this panel served to spur\u00a0the community present to continue the\u00a0dialogue around diversity, education, and inequality needed on American college\u00a0campuses.<\/p>\n
