My name is Carlos DeJesus and my major is New Media Technology. I was born here in New York City but both my parents were born in Barceloneta, Puerto Rico. They came in the early sixties and have been here ever since. I have an older sister eight years my senior who now lives in Texas with my two nieces and my nephew.
I originally attended John Jay College of Criminal Justice for a few years, Forensic Psychology was my major. Though I enjoyed the subject, I soon lost my focus and began to do poorly in school, not really caring what the end result would be.
I want to attain a degree which a applies to the field of Web Commerce and Design which I find to be challenging and rewarding, I have been in this field at some capacity for more than five years.
I chose LaGuardia because they offered An Associates in Applied Science with a concentration in New Media Technology, which is what I was looking for. It has been some time since I had last been in a classroom so I am focused on the transition from self teaching which I have done for many years to a classroom led by a professor with assignments. My strengths which will help me succeed are my ability to capture information relatively quickly and the real world experience which I have been acquiring for the past several years.
Though it will be vital to complete my degree, I think it will be challenging to set aside what I have learned over the years in order to focus on the fundamentals which will ultimately strengthen all that I have learned on my own.
When I receive my AAS at LaGuardia I plan to move on to a senior college to obtain a Bachelors Degree. I am leaning towards two institutions. Baruch College or The City College. Both offer degrees in interest but City College's degree has a stronger concentration in design. Once I have taken more courses at LaGuardia, I will be in a better position to determine where I would like to attend.
At the moment I work in the web field but I think after completing my degree here at LaGuardia I will definitely be in a more solid environment to procure the foundation I need to continue on my path of becoming an authority figure in this field.
