Well, I have to admit that talking about myself is definitely not as easy as I thought it was. I have been staring at my computer screen for a while now and still haven’t figured out how to start, but I guess I have to start somewhere so … here it goes!

As you probably already know by now, my name is Carolina Valle and I am in the Graphic and Web Design field. What you don’t know yet is that I was born and raised in Brasilia, Brazil and moved to New York City in august 2000. Right now you are probably thinking ‘Why should I care where she is from?’ and believe it or not, I actually have a good reason for it! I think that my style is a result of the mixture of both cultures and I can’t deny the big influence that my background has on me. It is a part of me and I am proud of that!

Maybe now I should get a little more technical, huh? I have just graduated from LaGuardia Community College with an Associate in Applied Sciences degree, New Media Technology major. Over the course of my studies at LaGuardia I took classes in Design, Computer Art, Video Editing, Animation, Web Design and Programming. For now I intend to get some work experience and then finish my studies at New York City College of Technology with a bachelor in Communication Design.

I did my internship for the Center for Teaching and Learning at LaGuardia as a Student Technology Mentor (STM) helping students with various technology tools and was promoted to work as an ePortfolio Consultant after only 6 months on the job. I have been working for them since June 2005 and I really enjoy helping students create their own electronic Portfolios. These are my American working experiences in the computer field but they started quite a while ago back home…

My dad bought our first computer when I was about 14 years old and got me private lessons with a computer expert friend who had a small Graphic Design company. After a while, I ended up helping them with graphic ideas for a CD-Rom they were putting together for a government agency in my city. At 18 years old I was hired by a small computer store and school to teach DOS, Windows 95, Word, Excel and Access to students in private lessons and in 2000 I had my first official job at a Graphic Design company. I absolutely loved that job and only left because it inspired me to study Graphic and Web Design abroad!

And here I am!
