The incredibly crappy year I have been having is about to take a turn for the better as the summer movie season of 2011 rolls around. In the next few months there are about five big budget comic themed movies set to drop. I have been a comic book aficionado since I was about three or four years old, which is about as long as I have been able to read. When I look back on my experiences comics have been one of the few constants in my life. Though good times and bad, the heroes within those colorful pages have been some of my role models, inspirations, and dearest friends. And while some might think that this sounds strange I would counter by saying that comic books are our modern day mythology. Films featuring Thor, Captain America, Green Lantern, the First Class of X-Men, and the Transformers are being released this summer. That makes four superhero stories and one “Giant Robot with explosions” film to satisfy my, some would say, adolescent film tastes. This doesn’t even cover some of the other action and adventure films and comedies like “Pirates of the Caribbean 4”, the last Harry Potter Film, and “The Hangover 2”. Needless to say, I can’t wait.
