The new baby

I just got the new Acer Aspire V3-771G-9875 17.3-Inch laptop I ordered as an early birthday present to myself. I bought it online from Amazon for a great price. My 2009 17 inch Macbook Pro was starting to show it’s age with the old Intel Core 2 Duo processor powering it. I was starting to worry that my Macbook  was going to have problems dealing with the new Adobe CS6 software suite, especially the video based applications like After Effects and Premiere Pro. So I put on my big boy pants and finally pulled the trigger on a new Acer system.

Now for the record I am not happy that I have switched from Macs back to the darkside, but this laptop was too good to pass up. I love my macs but the new systems are priced too high when compared to some Windows systems. The desktop system that I built a few months back had made me more comfortable about switching to windows again. For example, my new Acer has a new third generation Intel i7 Quad-core processor with a 2gb NVidia graphics card that will enable it to handle any graphics and video programs I throw at it. It is not a bad gaming system either. The base system ram me only 850 bucks, but I upgraded to 16gb ram and a added a secondary 512 Solid State Drive (SSD) by Crucial to the laptop for about 400 bucks. 512GB Crucial Solid State DriveThis machine is now a beast. A comparable Macbook Pro system would have run me over $4000 as opposed to the $1300 I dropped on it. I am waiting until Windows 8 drops in the fall and then I am gonna max out the system to 32gb of ram. The Acer has a second hard drive bay and 4 slots for ram. I threw the 512 SSD in second bay but only used 2 of the 4 ram slots. That was because the OS that shipped with the system, Window 7 Home Premium, only recognizes up to 16gb of ram.

I am loving the system so far. Still……I miss the sexy form factor of the new MacBook Pros.
