When I get bored I tend to do things like spend money and build silly things. I am still not sure what to do with myself while the whole family is away at summer camp, so of course I broke down and bought a new recurve bow for my birthday. I picked up the Martin Saber Takedown bow with a 55 lbs draw weight on Amazon for less than two bills. I have been meaning get back to the archery range ever since I took the family a few times last year. I really enjoyed the sport. Oddly enough, I found that shooting a bow was very calming in contrast to the other martial arts training I have been doing again. One of the guys at the range said that the Martin Saber was a great hunting bow. He looked at me like I was crazy when I said I couldn’t go around shooting defenseless little deer. I guess my east coast liberal cred is still in effect! Yeah boooy!
Up until now I have been going to a range called Queens Archery. It is a great place with an excellent equipment pro shop, but it is a bit of a haul from my house. So after search around on Google I found another couple of ranges in the city that are a bit more convenient for me. One of the places is called Proline Archery and I was going to start going there just because it is just easier to get to from where I live. But then I saw that Baruch College has an indoor archery range right in the heart of Manhattan. Since I am technically now a faculty member at two different CUNY institutions, I am hoping that I might be able to use their facilities for free. I have my fingers crossed.
