This a short video excerpt of a discussion on the field of digital development and the upcoming changes to the New Media Technology program at LaGuardia Community College. Last year I was tasked with the responsibility of conducting the Periodic Program Review (PPR) for the New Media Technology program at LaGuardia. In drafting the PPR I was forced to research the current status of the industry in which the program was preparing students to enter in the hopes of developing a plan to assess the effectiveness of the major and improve student outcomes.
Based on the information discovered during my research, I advocated for a cross disciplinary curricular design that should significantly improve the scope of the major. Many of the changes which I recommended in the PPR, in particular the creation of a cross disciplinary structure, have been approved by the college administration and are in the process of being implemented.
As we start to formalize a new curricular structure within New Media it was important to notify our current students on what the changes meant for them. The video above is from the informational session that was held for the students. I assisted the current director of New Media, Richard Dragan, and our newest faculty member, Jeremy Couillard, to ensure an effective transition to the new program design. It is my hope and belief that the college, the program, and most importantly, the students will benefit from this new programmatic structure.
