Halloween is one of my favorite holidays of the year. If I am being honest I would rate it a close second only to Christmas in terms pure fun and excitement. It has been this way for me as long as I can remember. Halloween was a time for me to totally release my inner nerd/geek without fear of being looked at as strange. Every year I went dressed as one of my favorite comic book characters. I was having a hard time Continue reading “Superhero Halloween Mashup!”
Chilling Justice League Style – NY Comic Con (360)
Chilling with the whole Justice League at the 2016 NY Comic Con. #nycomiccon #theta360 – Spherical Image – RICOH THETA
This year I took my Ricoh Theta 360 camera to Comic Con in order to get something other than the traditional cosplay photos. I have to admit that this whole 360 immersive photo stuff is starting to grow on me.
NY Cine Radio Episode 205: Civil War
This week I argue with the guys about why Captain America: Civil War was infinitely better than Batman vs Superman. We also discuss the latest Game of Thrones episode and breakdown Continue reading “NY Cine Radio Episode 205: Civil War”
Luke Cage: King of the town
As a lifelong comic book fan, and a kid born and raised in Harlem, I absolutely loved this trailer for Luke Cage series. The music from Nas almost made me scream. It was perfect! The series drops on Netflix in September. Fans got a brief taste of Cage in Continue reading “Luke Cage: King of the town”
Ben might prove me wrong
Those that follow my blog should already know that I am a huge Batman fan and that I wasn’t happy at all with the choice of Ben Affleck to play him in the upcoming “Batman vs Superman” film. However the above preview makes me think that I might have been totally wrong at least as it pertains to Affleck. All I can say now is that I am totally gassed to see this movie.
And notice that I am now referring to him as Ben, and not Affleck or El Headmo. Still he has a really big head. Massive.
Comic Con 2015 is on!
The 2015 New York Comic Con tickets have arrived! I could only get tickets for Thursday this year. I guess it is better than not getting tickets at all. Still, let me know if anyone has extras that they are willing to sell. I would rather not have to deal with scalpers. Because, to paraphrase the great Obi-Wan Kenobi, “never will you find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy”.
New York Cine Radio – The Halloween Podcast
Tom Seymour and the rest of the guys over at New York Cine Radio asked me to Skype in for their Halloween podcast special and do a small comic book and nerd culture segment. It was a new idea that they wanted to try out and the group thought that I would be the perfect person for the job.
I talked a little about the new Batman: Arkham Origins video game as well as some of the Continue reading “New York Cine Radio – The Halloween Podcast”
Open letter to Ben Affleck, or please shut up Matt Damon
Matt Damon was recently asked about his take on the Ben Affleck as Batman controversy. Damon, who is a long time friend of Affleck, stated that “Bruce Wayne is the more challenging part of the role, and Ben will be great at that”. He then went on to say that “Batman just sits there with his cowl over his head and whispers in a kinda gruff voice at people. Now I understand Matt Damon is just looking out for his boy, but the comments he made about how Batman isn’t a complex character came off as being more than a little ignorant and dismissive of the genre. In fact he only hurts Ben case by reinforcing a commonly held belief that Affleck doesn’t really take preparation for his roles seriously. I am hoping that Affleck does not share Damon’s feeling on Batman/Bruce Wayne or we could be in store for another Daredevil.
The studio isn’t going to back down so we are probably stuck with Affleck. So if I was to give Ben any advice it would be this; Continue reading “Open letter to Ben Affleck, or please shut up Matt Damon”
I do crazy stuff when I get bored.
The fourth of July is kind of boring this year with the wife and kids away at summer camp. Still, I shouldn’t complain too much since I am a married man at home without the family for a couple of days. The little things like having the TV and bathroom all to myself are pure bliss. However the house is too quiet and I am trying to keep from going stir crazy.
Right now I am deciding on whether to go to the movies or wait around for my boy Adesola to come over and hang out like we used to do back in high school. Or at least I am hoping he rolls through and brings a brother something to eat. HE KNOWS I CAN’T COOK AND AIN’T GOT NO DAMN FOOD IN ‘DA HOUSE!
I spent the morning sleeping late and watching cartoons. I spent the afternoon at the dojo, sweating profusely and getting punched in the head. The early evening was spent putting together this killer Batman costume I have been making for Comic Con this year. I have some of the main pieces such as the utility belt, the gauntlets, and the boots. However I am still searching for a good cowl.
As always with making one of these suits you have to decide to either go with the old school skintight spandex or the more modern armored batsuit. Unless I am in much better shape by the time Comic Con and Halloween roll around I am leaning towards the modern look. It is more forgiving than the spandex. I don’t want to go out and get called “Fatman”.
……does whatever a spider can!
It was a pretty good day for me. I had a couple of really productive meetings followed by an opportunity to reconnect with an old passion of mine that I have neglected for far too long, podcasting. Thanks to a good friend of mine I was asked to participate in a podcast about the new Spider-man movie with the guys over at NewYorkCine. I was brought in for my expertise on all things related to Spider-man and comic nerdism/geekdom. Plus I was one of the few people on the panel that actually loved the new Spider-man reboot more than the Sam Raimi versions.
Big up to my boy Thomas Edward Seymour for the invite. I had a blast. Here is to hoping they ask me back to help review the new Chris Nolan Batman flick, The Dark Knight Rises, later this month.
