MS Bike Tour: I thought I was in better shape

I participated in the MS Bike tour yesterday and rode under the LaGuardia banner. I got to the start line a few minutes late so I didn’t get a chance to hook up with the rest of the team from LaGuardia. As a result I rode the whole length of the course by myself. I didn’t mind too much since I had the iPod loaded with Jay Z, Biggie, and some ole’ school Run/DMC. Still it wasn’t the same as the previous bike tour. You see, Ski and I did the race last year. We had a great time despite the fact that I had to bail out at the thirty mile mark because I was so outta shape. I figured that I wouldn’t have any problems this year since I had been riding all summer in Oslo. All I will say is that I am glad that I decided to only do the 60 mile tour instead of the 100 mile course. It would have embarrassing to have to be picked up in Jersey because I couldn’t make it all the way home.

The tour is held every year in order to raise money for those who are suffering with MS. Riders have the option of selecting to complete a 30, 60, or 100 mile course that takes them through Manhattan and parts of New Jersey. While I was able to finish the whole course this year it wasn’t as easy as I figured it would be. The Palisades area of New Jersey was especially difficult because of all the hills. However the ride through the Lincoln Tunnel and up and down the West and Eastside Drives made it a pretty exciting day.
