The new Star Trek film

People that know me are aware that I have been a lifelong Star Trek fan. My friends are also aware that I absolutely detested the last Trek film directed by JJ Abrams. With that said, I can’t deny that this trailer has me more than a little excited to see the new movie.

My problems with the last film stems from the fact that while the action was great, the characterizations of Kirk and Spock were totally off. And I don’t mean just that there were different actors playing the parts. The script had them doing thing that Kirk and Spock would never do. First you have Spock totally losing control of his emotions on more than one occasion. And while I thought that Zach Quinto was a great selection to replace Leonard Nimoy as Spock, and that he did as well as could be expected with such an iconic role, Abrams obviously did not understand the character. Abrams portrayal of Kirk was also wrong on so many levels.

Whether you are Star Trek fan or not, the following review explains the strengths and weaknesses of the JJ Abrams version. It sums up my feeling on film so well that I wish I had posted it. The problems with Kirk, the problems with Spock, the HUGE plot holes, and everything else is all laid out in glorious fashion.
