The Digital Divide and Open Source Software

At the beginning of every semester I help students prepare for their ongoing coursework by pointing them towards open source software and low cost equipment which they can use to build and create digital content.

The lack of access to expensive software and hardware are two major components of the digital divide and racial gaps that we commonly see within the field of New Media. The following video is one of the lectures I share with students at the beginning of every semester.

Since everyone likes free stuff, I figured that I would share this lecture on software and tools that can be used for teaching as well as fun and entertainment. I just have one request, if you find the information helpful please subscribe to my YouTube channel. I plan to put together more videos on similar topics.
