These are pictures from my recent Krav Maga belt promotion test. I had stopped training years ago in any martial arts style and was surprisingly very anxious about the test. It was my first earned belt within the Krav Maga system. Hopefully there will be many more in the years to come.
Lazy Sunday
I was all set to head out to Staten Island today for a seminar on disarming a gun wielding attacker. The seminar was being held at Life Defense Inc., one of the sister schools affiliated with the Krav Maga Federation Headquarters. I had been looking forward to the seminar for the past two weeks but I felt that something wasn’t right with me yesterday when I was working out. Even my son pointed out that it seemed like I was tired when he came with me to Krav Maga class yesterday morning. I felt the chills coming on but just figured that it was just a slight cold from all of the running around that I had been doing during the week. Unfortunately when I woke up this morning Continue reading “Lazy Sunday”
What doesn’t kill me…….
…will only make me stronger. Well, at least that is what I have been telling myself as I nursed the sore ligaments in my foot. The injury was a result of my decision to try my hand at Krav Maga again. I signed up for classes at the New York City Krav Maga Federation training center located in John Jay College about a month ago. I needed to switch up my exercise program before the winter arrived since, as many would suspect, bike riding in the NYC cold can be a bit harsh. Continue reading “What doesn’t kill me…….”
Old memories
In searching through some old disks I came across this old Quicktime multimedia project that I did when I was back in graduate school. The piece was designed as a letter to my daughter. The purpose of the project was to document all of the feelings resulting from the event of her birth. I thought that it might be cool to record some of my emotions in order to give her some insight on her family history for when she was older. It was on of the first digital stories that I had created and, in many ways, was a precursor to my interest in ePortfolios.
Da’ Bridge is over, da’ bridge is over

Last Sunday Ski and I dropped the kids off at my mom’s place and rode in the NYC Five Boro Bike Tour. Now I know that I said that I would never ride with my wife again after the Great Norwegian biking debacle of 2007, but we do this race every year. It is a nice way for us to spend some time together. Plus since all of the roads are closed to traffic, there is almost no chance of me getting run over. Continue reading “Da’ Bridge is over, da’ bridge is over”
I just knew it…… soon as I go high def….

JVC announces their brand new High Definition camcorder, the Everio GZ-HD6. The GZ-HD6 is a 3CCD hard drive based camera priced at just over a $1,000. If you been reading some of my previous posts then you already know that I recently purchased a high def camcorder, the Canon HV20. At the time the HV20 was the best deal on the market. Much to my irritation, that my have just changed. Continue reading “I just knew it…… soon as I go high def….”
Presentation: The 4th Annual CUNY Gen-Ed Conference

Yesterday I presented at the 4th Annual CUNY Gen-Ed Conference as part of a group of faculty focusing on ways in which cross campus communication can be improved between community colleges and senior institutions. As part of the year long seminar with colleagues from LaGuardia and Baruch, we decided to share our research and discussions by presenting at the Gen-Ed Conference. I have previous discussed this faculty seminar in one of my earlier posts. The conference presentation was memorable for me in that it was the first time in which my wife and I were able to present together.
The Future of ePortfolio: A conversation at LaGuardia
In my previous posts I have discussed the various breakout sessions from the Making Connections conference on ePortfolios and Integrative Learning. However my description doesn’t fully convey the energy generated from the session. The following conversation was taped at the recent “The future of ePortfolio” roundtable discussion.
The Grand Theft Auto IV Launch party
I guess I am gonna have to finally breakdown and finally get a Playstation 3 (PS3) because Grand Theft Auto IV has just been released. I have put it off buying a next gen system because I really wanted a PS3. Plus when the system came out last year the games pretty much sucked and the console was 700 bucks. Since then there have been a number of solid games released for the PS3 and Sony dropped the price of the console down to 400 bucks. With the release of GTA IV, my bank account may have to take another hit. Continue reading “The Grand Theft Auto IV Launch party”
There is a food shortage??

Today was a fairly typical Saturday for us. Ski and Tita had to go to a birthday party for one of Tita’s school friends, so Jonas and I went to Costco to stock up. If you listen to the news reports lately you constantly hear about how the rising gas prices have driven up food prices and caused a food shortage. Well let me just say that we have got nothing to worry about here in the US if Costco is any indication. We Americans can remain secure in the fact that we can still gorge ourselves to the point of exhaustion.
