This weekend I took the kids and the wifey to their first NYC Comiccon. I figured that it was time to help them cultivate their inner nerds. It was a big deal for me since I remember my own father taking me to Comic and Sci-Fi conventions like this when I was a little kid. Back then it was pretty much a bunch of kids dragging their parents around to see all of these cool sci-fi and comic items. Fast forward nearly 30 years later and Continue reading “The NYC Comic Con 2009: Attack of the Nerds”
I spits hot fiyah!!
As I was doing some backup and maintenance on some of my old computers I came across these old music tracks that I made years ago. You see, back in the days after I graduated from college I had this crazy idea that I wanted to become the next hip hop star. It was more than an idea. I actually spent a great deal of time and money pursuing this goal. I came kind close a couple of times in making it a reality. In fact I might even try Continue reading “I spits hot fiyah!!”

Early Morning Krav Maga Workout
This is a brief video taken by my kids as they watched their father sweat through an early Saturday morning workout. I really plan to get in better shape for the New Year. Luckily I have the next couple of month off to workout both physically, mentally and professionally. I aim to make the best of this time.
Fame can sometimes be a kick in the a$$!
As this year comes to a close it is ironic how people, places, and things from my past are starting to resurface as if almost by design. My recent re-dedication to the martial arts has almost seemingly summoned alot of my boys out of the woodwork. One of my old training partners, and dojo brothers, Fame has moved back to NYC after living abroad in Europe for the past decade.
I knew that Fame had been Continue reading “Fame can sometimes be a kick in the a$$!”
Black men can jump. Well, at least we could in the past.
I finally got off my butt and digitized some old footage of me playing basketball back in the day. The tape is from my senior year at Oberlin College. I had the tape laying around my mom’s house for ages and figured that it would probably be a good idea to convert it to digital before the tape got too old and worn out.

Lazy Sunday
I was all set to head out to Staten Island today for a seminar on disarming a gun wielding attacker. The seminar was being held at Life Defense Inc., one of the sister schools affiliated with the Krav Maga Federation Headquarters. I had been looking forward to the seminar for the past two weeks but I felt that something wasn’t right with me yesterday when I was working out. Even my son pointed out that it seemed like I was tired when he came with me to Krav Maga class yesterday morning. I felt the chills coming on but just figured that it was just a slight cold from all of the running around that I had been doing during the week. Unfortunately when I woke up this morning Continue reading “Lazy Sunday”
What doesn’t kill me…….
…will only make me stronger. Well, at least that is what I have been telling myself as I nursed the sore ligaments in my foot. The injury was a result of my decision to try my hand at Krav Maga again. I signed up for classes at the New York City Krav Maga Federation training center located in John Jay College about a month ago. I needed to switch up my exercise program before the winter arrived since, as many would suspect, bike riding in the NYC cold can be a bit harsh. Continue reading “What doesn’t kill me…….”
Old memories
In searching through some old disks I came across this old Quicktime multimedia project that I did when I was back in graduate school. The piece was designed as a letter to my daughter. The purpose of the project was to document all of the feelings resulting from the event of her birth. I thought that it might be cool to record some of my emotions in order to give her some insight on her family history for when she was older. It was on of the first digital stories that I had created and, in many ways, was a precursor to my interest in ePortfolios.
