American Expendables Interview

Tom Seymour, the director of the VHS Massacre documentary series, asked me to sit down and talk about his newest project in which I appear. This was my third documentary collaboration with Tom, having previously appeared in VHS Massacre and VHS Massacre Too. The film is called American Expendables and is a deep dive into the impact that B-movie action stars like Bolo Yeung, Bill Blanks, and Cynthia Rothrock had on the martial arts genre.

Tom interviewed me because of my martial arts background and love of Kung Fu movies from the 70s and 80s. This is a project that he worked on for several years. The documentary has won many major film festivals, including becoming a Gold winner at the 2024 Telly Awards.

American Expendables film is currently streaming on the Amazon Prime and Fandango platforms!

Guess who won their first Telly Award?

Since I returned from vacation in Norway I have been feeling a bit down. Thankfully, I received some good news in the mail yesterday. A documentary in which I played a part, American Expendables, was a Gold Winner at the 2024 Telly Awards in the Long Form Documentary category. In addition to appearing on camera, I also served as a producer on the project.

American Expendables is the brainchild of Thomas Seymour, director of the award-winning VHS Massacre film series. The documentary explores the martial arts video craze in the U.S. during the 70s, 80s, and 90s. The film celebrates the unsung action stars Cynthia Rothrock, Bolo Yeung, and Billy Blanks. Tom asked me if I would be interested in being a part of his new documentary because of my background in martial arts and love of B-rated action films.

Saturday Zoom Brunch

Even people who know me would be surprised to find out that I have a serious love hate relationship with technology. The constant need to stay up to date created by new equipment apps and languages can be overwhelming and tiring. How it is the same constant process of development, and the ways in which these new tools impact our lives, that I also love.

It blows my mind how easy it is for 10 friends in different parts of the city, country, and globe to get together on a Saturday afternoon.

Magical Court-side seats in Orlando

Jeff Ice and the fam

This year continues to have me reconnecting with old friends and loved ones. I had a great weekend in Orlando celebrating the birthday of my boy Jeff Ice. The only downside of the trip was that my boy Des couldn’t make it. Jeff, Des, and I have been best friends since 7th grade. We all have families and jobs, so we don’t get together as much as in the past. To say that Des was missed is an understatement.

I have to thank his wife Lex for setting everything up and bringing us all together again! She flew us down, put us up at the crib, and even made sure that we had the best seats in the house during the Orlando Magic game. Which I must add was hysterical because after I stopped playing basketball I kinda lost all interest in the game. However, during this sabbatical, I have watched more basketball than I have in years. And court-side seats are making me start to rethink my position. Ice hit the jackpot when he married her! We gotta all get together again before I have to back to work!

I will not hurl: My First 5k Race

My wife talked me into skipping part of the 3rd day of the NY Comic Con in order to do something together as a couple. So I got up at 5:30am to drive two hours to Woodstock, NY to run in a fuggin’ Wine Festival Half Marathon. A WINE FESTIVAL! I hate wine. She is running the half while I am running the 5k. I haven’t trained or run like this in years. Pray that the spirit of Batman watches over

Stately Wayne Manor!

WayneManor

The last few months have been an extremely stressful but yet amazing period. I seriously injured my leg training for a martial arts related documentary I am filming, had reconstructive surgery on my knee, watched in nervous anticipation as my daughter waited to receive college acceptance letters, and celebrated both my daughter’s 18th birthday and 23 years with my wife. However the most joyous and nerve racking experience of this time was closing on a new apartment.

Much to the annoyance of family and friends I have been referring to our new home as stately Wayne Manor!

Flying Free

This photo of my son pretty much encompasses my thoughts on parenting. The desire to have your children fly free, but also the fear that they are going to fall down and hurt themselves.

Needles!!

My rotator cuff injury got worked on today by my acupuncturist. I have been having shoulder pains for a few months now and it was getting to the point where I had to do something. I figured I would look into alternative therapies like acupuncture. And yes, it really does work. Well, at least it works if your practitioner knows what they are doing. Luckily mine does. I am feeling pretty good! My shoulder feels much better after only a couple of sessions. My practitioner is named Lisa Sumption and I would definitely recommend her. It was relatively painless. And keep in mind that I am a person that absolutely hates needles.
