Over the past few months I have been training pretty hard in preparation for promotions in the various martial arts styles that I am studying. Last month, I successfully tested for my 1st degree Black Belt in IPS Shotokan, and today I successfully tested for my Orange Belt in Krav Maga. I have been studying Continue reading “Krav Maga Belt Promotion”
Publication Seminar
Today I attended a workshop at LaGuardia designed to help junior faculty, like myself, identify greater opportunities to publish. The workshop was led by Dr. Jane Johansen of the University of Southern Indiana. Dr. Johansen is a very dynamic speaker and covered a impressive amount of material during the day long session.
The seminar today was the first of a series of workshops being held over the course of the semester. This first workshop was extremely helpful because I was made aware of a few new journals that apply to my field. The other benefit was that I came away with some great concepts for the new articles that I am planning to write.
Late Night Workout for Insomniacs
My recent bouts of insomnia have made my workouts a true late night exercise. I am really starting to think that this must be how vampires live. It seems that the last few weeks have been a focal point for nearly every stressful event that I could imagine and it is starting to take a toll on my sleep patterns. I have always been more than a bit Continue reading “Late Night Workout for Insomniacs”
Runnin’ for Chowda: Year Two
I just got off of the phone with Ski and was shocked to hear her sound so energetic. She slid up to Beantown this weekend to run in her second Boston Marathon and had just finished when I got her on the cell. I really wanted to see her run but someone had to look after the kids since they were back in school after a week off for Spring Break. It probably was for the best since the weather in Boston was cold and rainy and neither of us want the kids to catch any colds. Still, it would have been Continue reading “Runnin’ for Chowda: Year Two”
Go Trek Yourself
This is either one of the funniest, or the creepiest, things I have seen on the web in awhile. You got a black vulcan spitting the lyrics of Rakim in an offbeat monotone fashion. Yes I realize that I am a major nerd but the use of flash in this application is pretty original. You can upload a picture of yourself, type in some text and boom. You have just Trek’ed yourself. Continue reading “Go Trek Yourself”
Black Belt Ceremony
I am so proud of my baby. She finally earned her Black belt in Karate. She had been practicimg very hard over the last few months in order to get ready for the testing. It was obvious that all the hard work had paid off. Her katas were pretty sharp for someone her age. And her fighting was really good too. I just remember that Continue reading “Black Belt Ceremony”
First week back on that old hustle!!
This is the first week back teaching after being out of the classroom since mid-December. Now granted, I have been doing alot of work around the college and redesigning the curriculum for the New Media Technology program. However, that is very different from teaching and being in the classroom in front of students. But I have to say that it is amazing how quickly I am able to get back into the flow now that I have been teaching for a couple of years. While I am far from a veteran, I no longer feel like a rookie either.
The NYC Comic Con 2009: Attack of the Nerds
This weekend I took the kids and the wifey to their first NYC Comiccon. I figured that it was time to help them cultivate their inner nerds. It was a big deal for me since I remember my own father taking me to Comic and Sci-Fi conventions like this when I was a little kid. Back then it was pretty much a bunch of kids dragging their parents around to see all of these cool sci-fi and comic items. Fast forward nearly 30 years later and Continue reading “The NYC Comic Con 2009: Attack of the Nerds”
I spits hot fiyah!!
As I was doing some backup and maintenance on some of my old computers I came across these old music tracks that I made years ago. You see, back in the days after I graduated from college I had this crazy idea that I wanted to become the next hip hop star. It was more than an idea. I actually spent a great deal of time and money pursuing this goal. I came kind close a couple of times in making it a reality. In fact I might even try Continue reading “I spits hot fiyah!!”
