It is a Festivus miracle! Here is the New York Cine Radio Christmas Special that I spoke of in an earlier post when I was interviewed on TV! This week on the podcast the gang and I discuss the new “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” film and Continue reading “NY Cine Radio: The 2015 Christmas Special”
Episode 7: Time to play hooky
The pictures above are of me standing on line for the 8am early morning showing of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. There has not been a more eagerly awaited and anticipated film in years, and keep in mind that includes all of the recent Marvel/DC/Superhero films that have dominated the box office as of late. Nerds and geeks love Star Wars probably as much, if not more so than they love Star Trek and Doctor Who.
I was going to wait until next week so see the new Star Wars film because I expected it to be a mad house, but while I was heading into the office I walked past the theater. There was no line outside for the earlier showing. I then decided I couldn’t wait and took a chance that tickets were available. Luckily there were spots still unsold and I was able to purchase a ticket. So I texted a colleague and rescheduled my 10am meeting until later in the day and went in to enjoy the show.
While waiting on the line I was approached by Mario Diaz of WPIX Channel 11 news. Mario Diaz is best known his reporting on the NYPD “Stop and Frisk” policy, as well as being the reporter that Continue reading “Episode 7: Time to play hooky”
He lived long and prospered!
Star Trek was such a huge part of my formative years. It is from this show that I first learned what would become my models for determination, friendship, tolerance, logic, courage and sacrifice. The portrayal of Spock by Leonard Nimoy was a large part of the reason that the show resonated so deeply with me and millions of others. At a time when people throw around the words like “iconic”, Leonard Nimoy’s Spock was exactly that.
The depth of the Spock character, and the philosophy inspired by the series, never Continue reading “He lived long and prospered!”
Don’t worry, baby girl. I got this!
I saw my girl off to the airport today as she heads to Norway for a few weeks to catch up with family and friends. We are gonna miss her. The upside, the kids and I are planning a series of wild parties. She said that she would be checking in to see if I can handle two weeks alone with the kids. Oh I can handle it. The DJ booth and the full bar should be installed by tomorrow afternoon, just in time for the weekend! Let the debauchery begin! I just have to make sure that the kids don’t starve–or worse: have a steady diet of pizza and McD’s burgers & fries! But that might be so bad. I heard that the tomatoes in Pizza counts as vegetables. The same goes for the lettuce on top of a Big Mac.
I am wondering if I can get something like this completely done to the house before she returns.

Here is to another 50 years
I was never really a fan of the Doctor Who series until the reboot of the franchise in 2005. Just like most of people born in the US, the show always had seemed entirely too “British” for me. You always had this old and relatively out of shape guy defending the earth from death and destruction armed with nothing but a blue telephone booth and a screwdriver. He dressed like a moron and usually talked like an individual that escaped from an asylum. He never used guns and rarely ever fought hand to hand. As a person raised on Captain Kirk and Han Solo as my Scifi inspirations, the early episodes of Doctor Who really failed to connect with me. I just didn’t get it. However all of that changed Continue reading “Here is to another 50 years”
I wish “Into the Darkness” had been as good as this commercial
I love this new Audi commercial with Leonard Nimoy and Zachary Quinto almost as much as I hated the last Star Trek reboots.
He changed the conditions of the test!
Once again I was interviewed by the team over at New York Cine on topics related to technology and pop culture. This time out I was asked to specifically talk about the new film by director JJ Abrams, “Star Trek: Into Darkness”. I was not a fan of the first movie. I thought that Abrams essentially damaged the franchise by implementing huge changes in the source material. However I was willing to give his take on Star Trek a second chance.
The movie was visually Continue reading “He changed the conditions of the test!”
What is procrastination??
The definition of procrastination…… searching the Internet for a realistic Klingon Bat’leth while a revision deadline is looming for my article on digital scholarship. While I haven’t finished the revisions, I did find a fairly decent bat’leth. Once again my love of all things Star Trek has proven to be my undoing.
New Years Day: The Star Trek Experience
It is the first day of the New Year so so what could be better than a trip to the Star Trek Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton? Since I don’t gamble at all, and the Bunny Ranch would probably get me shot by my wife, I had to find something to do in Vegas. This was gonna be my third time at the exhibit. However it was my first time with the kids. Believe it or not, Ski and I came here a few years back as we were on a belated Honeymoon. She enjoyed it, which is odd because she usually hates anything having to do with Sci-fi.
