The Second Annual LaGuardia Community College New Media Technology conference was held on May 16th 2007. The conference was big improvement over last year. That is not to say that last year was bad. Far from it. However this year we had alot more support from industry leading companies like Avid, Apple, Adobe, Microsoft, and Prentis Hall. As a result the overall conference had much greater attendance. Plus the breakout sessions this year were killer.
Apple gave a presentation on running windows on their new intel-based systems that seriously convinced me to tryout loading Windows XP on my Macbook Pro. The team from Apple gave a demo on how Bootcamp or Parellels can give a mac user the option of keeping all their applications on one system. Not to be outdone, Microsoft gave a presentation on their XNA gaming platform and their new web development suite of tools called Expressions. Expressions was a major hit with the conference attendees. Adobe’s presentation was the one that I had been aching to see since they were demonstrating the new CS3 suite of products (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Fireworks, and Flash). Unfortunately it was scheduled at the same time that I was giving a presentation on open source alternatives to commercial software packages.
We have already started to plan next years conference. Hopefully it will be an even greater success.
