Working out ain’t no joke!

Me after a workoutGetting back into the swing of working out regularly has been more of a challenge than I thought. However the upside of this change has been that I have started get back to my old playing weight. I got about another 10 lbs until I am able to fit back into my high school jersey. Now I just gotta get my knees in playing form so I can get my hops back. I really wanna get to the point where I can dunk easily again.

So far my workout regiment has included biking and weight lifting. It has been awhile since I worked out regularly so I figured I would take it slow with low impact exercises. I don’t want to pull or injure something. The last thing I want it to get sidelined with an injury when i am getting back on track.

The workout plan has also included totally changing my diet. So far all I have limited my eating to lean grilled chicken, fish, veggies, salads, egg white omelettes (egg beaters), sugar free diet soda (Sprite Zero…..it tastes just like the real thing), and low fat milk for my low fat Kashi cereal. The diet part has been difficult to stick to since I am traveling throughout Europe this summer. I am gonna have to start cooking for myself more. Unfortunately the Scandinavians eat alot of bread and cheeses, which are nothing but carbs and fat. Luckily they have really good seafood where I am at so I hope it balances out. Still, I am gonna have to watch the carbs and fat if I wanna cultivate that lean muscular look.

Next week I am gonna step up the cardio with some martial arts forms. I am surprised that I actually remembered some of my old katas. The forms should help my balance and concentration as well as getting my coordination back where I want it. It was kinda scary how klutzy I feel after a few years of not exercising.
