The Slow Road Back: Solo Training

The kid is trying to get back into shape after a long and rough year on a number of fronts. It has been about eight months since I was working out on a consistent basis. Still, in that time I have been able to adequately maintain my weight and general health by eating right. However there is no substitute for regular exercise. Plus the wife and kids have been telling me that I am a great deal more pleasant to be around when I workout. Who could have guessed that punching people in the face could be therapeutic?

The nagging injuries and stressors that precipitated by my layoff are for the most part still there, but I hope to start back training regularly at the dojo this week. The shoulders and knees are still sore. Not as bad as before, but still tender. I have been ramping up the solo training gradually as to not injury myself again. I shot the video for this movie on my new little Kodak Zi8 in order to help me self-correct my stances and movements later. However the video showed me that I need some serious work. Everything feels off. My balance, footwork, reactions, speed, and strength are all decreased. The worst part is that I have no endurance. I will take it one step at a time. The plan is to be back in form before my birthday.

Above is some additional footage that I posted earlier of a light sparring session. Notice how winded I am at the end of the short video.
